Paint on Pixel
marks Skygolpe’s debut in physical painting and originates from an investigation into the dialogue between painterly gesture and digital processes. The series conceives the painting as a hybrid system, where digitally generated surfaces, mechanical reproduction, and manual intervention coexist on the canvas.

The works are built through layers: digital textures, scans, and prints are reworked with acrylic paint, resulting in compositions that echo the logic of contemporary interfaces. Skygolpe’s silhouette, often blurred or dissolving, loses its iconic function and merges into the abstract structure of the work.

In 2022, Paint on Pixel entered art market history when the first physical artwork ever at Christie’s was sold through the auction of its digital certificate of authenticity (NFT) at Christie’s New York. This milestone was further consolidated by an auction at Christie’s Hong Kong in 2024, confirming the series’ international relevance.

Collapses the Boundaries Between Digital and Physical (Artnet, 2022)

The “Paint On Pixel” series marked a radical evolution in the artist’s practice, as it was a departure from the digital world of NFTs he first garnered wide-spread attention from, and juxtaposed with other recent creative lines of inquiry in Skygolpe’s work, the show will illustrate the experimental and boundary-pushing nature of his practice.

In conjunction with his new A.I. photographic works, regardless of whether a viewer hails predominantly from the world of digital art or traditional art, within the show one can trace both Skygolpe’s creative line of inquiry, and understand how they can, and perhaps should, be seen as complimentary rather than antagonistic as many have deemed them to be.

Arranged with the discerning eye of Moscatello, “Third Dimension” promises to be a significant moment in the artist’s career.
